The story of broken links

Most website manager try to tell us their websites have no broken links and in many cases, they’re right.  There are literally millions of ‘broken link checkers’ in the marketplace and many of these are free.

However, it raises a very important question: What about those who bookmark pages to return at a later date; or those who keep regular links on their desktop for general reference?

Then of course you have all the search engines which store forever, information about your site and what can be found on what page within you site, irrespective of its status.

I’m not sure of any website manager who can know there is not one link to their website on the internet, which is broken.  There is no possible way they could know about it.

Wherever URL Search is installed we never have any of these problems with broken links.  They are in fact eliminated.

We are able to find you the right page every time you click on that bookmark, favourite desktop link or Google/Yahoo/Bing (Search Engine) link!

It makes no sense to make the process of accessing information more difficult than it needs to be for your prospective clients, especially when they can be automatically directed to the right page by the simple use of URL Search and even though they might not know the exact page they want: Even Google agrees with this concept.

The story of short URLs

The question always arises: Why do people use tools such as tinyurl or shorturl? It’s so easy to set up a short URL on your own site? There are so many benefits.

I can visualise if you have a domain name like www.yelloWaterfrontServices.com.au then attaching a long page name and end up with something like http://www.yellowaterfrontservices.com.au/images/splash_bg.jpg (That’s my town).

It doesn’t make sense and of course, how do you fit this on flyers, leaflets, handouts, pamphlets and brochures?

Compared to http://tinyurl.com/65q5vbu (26 characters), this http://www.yellowaterfrontservices.com.au/images/splash_bg.jpg (62 characters) it’s far too big.

You could make http://www.yellowaterfrontservices.com.au/images/splash_bg.jpg (62 characters) smaller by changing the domain name to some more like http://ywfs.com.au/images/splash_bg.jpg (39 characters) then you could simply change the folder and file name to be something like http://ywfs.com.au/i/s.jpg (26 characters).

This is a lot of work and when you have a large website, keeping the folder and file names clear and simple makes managing your site dramatically easier.  You could build a page to catch the http://ywfs.com.au/catch.aspx?id=134 (36 characters) but it’s still longer than 26 characters.  What if you created a folder with a default page http://ywfs.com.au/catch/? You still need to pass on the id or just have one redirect.

This is where URL search is ideal because all you have to do is go to the page, change the keyword to have ‘ABC’ and put it on the end of you URL http://ywfs.com.au/ABC (22 characters) or http://ywfs.com.au/A1 (21 characters).  When it makes sense its so much better - http://ywfs.com.au/about (24 characters).  As long as it’s in the title, description or keywords - URL Search will find it.

Each time you use a tinyurl or shorturl you are helping them! The more popular they are, the higher the ranking on Google (and other engines) they get, thus the more money they make!

I think it makes more sense for you to get the advertising on your flyers, leaflets, handouts, pamphlets and brochures.

Purchase Process

How to install

Installation is quick and easy, even for the novice.  First you will need to have your URL www.mysite.com (etc.) which must be valid as URL Search requires this for security reasons and to build the meta data.

Next thing to do is to wait for the email.

Email arrived

The email will contain your receipt and a link to your unique download of URL Search.  Each version is tailored to the individual site.

Inside the zip file

Inside the zip file is a folder, inside which is the unique id.  You copy this folder and all the contents into your website.

Setting changes

Two simple setting changes are now required.  The first is in the Webserver where the URL Search has passed the information it needs from the server.  The second is in the web.config if IIS or .htaccess if Apache and PHP, to get the information from the pages.

Note- the setting changes may be different depending on your particular server type and hosting configuration.

The latest version of URL Search is currently priced at $20.00 AUD (per website).  This represents exceptional value for such a unique and extraordinary tool.  It’s our intention to keep it at that price for as long as possible so it remains affordable.
